WADI DRIVES · UAE & OMAN
Guided wadi driving through the Hajar range — you, your 4x4, and a small convoy led by an expert guide. Recovery kit on every drive. Winter season now open.
Wadi driving trades soft sand for rock, gravel and water. You’ll thread your own 4x4 through the dry (and sometimes not-so-dry) riverbeds of the Hajar Mountains — low speed, high precision, reading the ground line by line instead of floating over dunes. It’s a completely different discipline from desert driving, and for a lot of drivers it’s where off-roading really clicks: slower, more technical, and framed by some of the most dramatic scenery in the region.
We run in small groups so nobody gets lost in a convoy of twenty. You drive; the guide leads, sets the line, calls the tricky sections and handles recovery if anyone gets stuck.
Our home ground is Shawka — around 70 minutes from Dubai, forgiving terrain, and hard to go wrong on. It’s the ideal place to start wadi driving or to shake the rust off. We test and add other locations through the season, up to the flagship crossing into Oman’s Wadi Nakhr.

Rope, radio and compressor come as standard on every Desertica drive — you don’t need to own a winch to come out with us.

What to bring
Wadi driving at Shawka is beginner-friendly — if you can drive, you can start here. You don’t need dune experience first. More technical routes and the Oman camp assume you’re comfortable on rock and with your vehicle. Every drive opens with a briefing, and the guide adjusts the line to the group. If you’re unsure whether you or your car are ready, book a 1:1 first and we’ll build you up.
Small groups. Winter Sundays. Open drives are capped at four cars.

The season’s big one. We cross into Oman for Wadi Nakhr — the “Grand Canyon of Arabia” — for a two-day trip that combines a proper wadi drive, an overnight camp under the mountains, and a guided hike with a dedicated hiking guide. Bigger commitment, bigger reward, and a small group only.
Included: the drive, the overnight camp, and the guided hike. [TO CONFIRM: meals, camping equipment, what’s provided vs bring-your-own.]
You’ll need: a passport valid for cross-border travel, your own capable 4x4, and confidence on rock from a previous drive with us or equivalent experience.
Sundays, plus Wednesday & Friday mornings
Want to go at your own pace, build confidence, or work on specific skills before joining a group? Book a private 1:1. Just you and the guide, on terrain matched to you. Midweek morning slots (Wed & Fri) are ideal if you’d rather not wait for a weekend — back in the city by early afternoon.
