Overview

S3 is where the curriculum begins to separate those who understand desert driving from those who feel it. Ridges become progressively sharper and taller. The switching technique — moving the vehicle from one ridge line to another — is introduced for the first time.

This session demands precision. Stabilising the vehicle on a ridge requires continuous, subtle inputs. Wheel placement is no longer an exercise — it is a requirement. You will leave S3 with a fundamentally different relationship with the terrain, and with the confidence that comes from controlling a vehicle in situations that would have been unthinkable at S1.

What you'll cover

• Progressive ridge work — sharper, taller, and more demanding than S2, building on established technique
• Introduction to switching — reading the moment, initiating the transition, and placing the vehicle on the new ridge line
• Stabilising on the ridge — the continuous micro-adjustments that keep the vehicle where you intend it
• Wheel placement under pressure — applying the fundamentals from S1 on terrain that demands them
• Managing vehicle attitude — understanding body roll, weight transfer, and what your vehicle is telling you
• Building the automatic responses that advanced driving requires

Progression — Marshal sign-off required. Member must demonstrate clean ridge switching and stable control on sharp intermediate ridges.
